Hello, my name is Dianne Hausler. I am running as a candidate for division 8 in the 2012 Redland City Council election. I am forty-four years of age and live in Wellington Point (Redland City).
I am passionate about creating safe, happy and sustainable communities, and I have a keen interest in wildlife, marine biology, creating healthy waterways, and looking after our environment. I am also passionate about helping businesses within Redland City and supporting local schools.
A community is made up of a myriad of people: the young, old, employed, unemployed, business owners, employees – and the list goes on. I believe it is important for politicians to listen to all residents because ALL are important and ALL have needs that have to be met. It is impossible to have a happy and sustainable community without care, compassion and commonsense.
I am the daughter of an Anglican minister and grew up in South-East Queensland. My memory of the Redlands extends back to my childhood, the strawberry farms and playing at Wellington Point when I was four or five. My son, Stephen, is studying electrical engineering at QUT. I am a proud mother and believe in quality education for our children.
I volunteer most of my spare time to community groups and environmental projects and programs. On 14th October I attended a ceremony at Customs House in Brisbane where I received the 2011 Queensland Pride of Australia Award (Environment category).
Maintaining healthy waterways and creating a safe environment for wildlife and residents requires a great deal of effort. However, a goal, a smile and a positive mindset is all that is need to get the ball rolling. While one person can make a positive difference, together we can achieve so much more.
